Russ i would like to see some on the water coverage of a major tournament team fishing during a tournament. Following that team the whole day and have them explain later what they did and why. Also a wadding show would be nice also, and of course one more longlining show with Dereck on the Hill

My big knock against most videos is that they are concerned with showing fish being caught. That might be required for TV shows, but we all know that catching the fish is the end of the process, and it's the process that we all need to get better at.

Show us the planning on the map. If you don't want to show spots or areas on the lake, sketch a map that still gives the feel of the spot without giving it away. Show your rigs and lures in detail. Tell us how you are fishing the lure if you are casting. How long you let it sit, how fast you reel and what ratio your reel is. Maybe even a whiteboard type sketch of where the fish are on the structure and where in the lake, or even where you think they are beforehand and compare that to where they really were. I'd even like to see a clock on the screen to show how long you stuck with something that didn't work. I don't need fancy graphics or lots of fish caught. You could edit in commentary away from the lake to tell us about the technique and spots. As far as I'm concerned you can cut out landing the fish entirely. Crappie aren't known for the fight.

Basic fishing education. I'm not interested in being entertained. I guess that's why I like Ernest Paty's video "Crappie Fishing 101." He teaches the material in a classroom-like setting, then shows videos of him on the lake doing the thing he was talking about.

I only wish it were more detailed for absolute beginners like me. Like show us the knots you tie. Show us the colors you choose or the jigs you tie, how to make the rigs you do and why. Vertical jigging, dock shooting and spider rigging, I want to know how to find and catch the fish.

How to find structure without a map because my lake doesn't have a map. How to use basic entry-level sonar and gps to find structure and fish it.

Hold a contest. You can make all kind of contacts lists, sell gear, lots of stuff you can do with contests, but the WINNER gets you to come to his HOMETOWN lake or river system or place that he chooses (yall can work out the dates behind the scenes) and YOU go there and show HIM how to catch more fish at HIS lake.
Not some well known crappie heaven that any idiot can catch fish on, but lakes and rivers that normal people live near and fish. Gather info, topos, GPS, side imaging for a couple days and then take the man fishing.

    No one....does that. No one.

Feel free to send me royalties on that one.

Just please DON'T be like Norm Abrams and the New Yankee Workshop! He uses tools that none-but-the-richest homeowner could afford.

"...and to join these two pieces of wood, I'm going to use my $800 biscuit joiner right after I use my $1000 nuclear-powered drill press..."

Follow a couple teams from the Indiana Slabmasters Classic! Ride along with the Hildreths and/or Raymers, I'll help you edit!

    Now thats funny right there!!!

Id also like to see some "real" tournament footage, im sure you can find a couple of guys who would be happy to have you follow them/ride along(i know of 2 for certain LOL), to see how several different teams approach fishing. I know some folks aint into the competition side of fishing, but the fact that they are looking for the biggest crappie they can find in a short amount of time should be useful to all anglers

    Sounds like a volunteer. :D

    Russ,
Combine the two main ideas that have been tossed around here. Do a mini documentary on a tournament team that is preparing to fish somewhere other than their home lake. Show how they plan, prefish, and compete. It's true - Not everyone is into tourneys, but we're all into becoming better crappie catchers. I think a lot of guys here have fished enough to have tried several different tactics/methods and would like to see a show heavier on the "why" rather than more of the "how".

Really like your previous DVDs. Keep em coming.
