Arrow Eagle Claw Nitro Crappie Nibbles

I recently decided to try some crappie nibbles because i heard that they work well for crappie and other panfish. However, when I went to my local Fleet Farm, they only had the Eagle Claw Nitro brand, so I got some of those. They were the chartreuse ones.

Today, when I went fishing to try them out, I looked at one after about a half hour of fishing and it looked like nothing had happened to it, so I decided to do an experiment. My experiment consisted of a single hook tied to 4 pound line tied to a popsicle stick that was over a jar. The length of line was long enough so that the hook was in about the middle of the jar. I filled the jar to the top with water, which happened to be 63*F, about the average temp. of our waters here in central Wi. during the summer. I then hooked a single crappie nibble and lowered it into the water. The purpose of this experiment would be to see what it looks like inder water to a fish. Here are my findings.

In the first 5 minutes nothing really came off of it. I gave it some small 2-4" jigging strokes as well and nothing really came off of it. By about 7 1/2 min. into the experiment, a crack that started small had opened up to be a pretty big crack now. Now when I gave it jigging strokes, small pieces started coming off from the area by that crack. Even when it was sitting still, really small pieces could be seen coming off it. When I took it out at 10 min. to inspect it, you could tell that it had expanded slightly, I continued the jigging, resting, and observing intil at 20 min. exactly, the crack opened up so much that it fell off.

My final conclusion is if you were using these so that the fish would see the pieces and come in and investigate, then it wouldn't really work well because the pieces coming off it were so small that they would be hard to see. But if you were using them for smell and/or taste/texture, they probably would work well, because the texture of squishing one of these when they have been in the water for a while is the same as a bug or small minnow.

This makes me wonder hoe the Powerbait ones compare, and I will do a test on them soon. Please feel free to leave comments.

    Thank you,

Those aren't crappie nibbles. Those things float. Crappie nibbles sink and emit a cloud in the water right away. Berkley products are superior to those eagle claw nuggets. You'll see the diffrence when you do your check.

I believe you. I was hoping they would work good until I am able to get powerbait ones, but now knowing that they aren't even real crappie nibbles, that just upsets me.

Mash 'em into your chenille body jigs or get a bait pump and squirt into a tube jig if you want some extra scent.

Good idea about injecting them into tubes. But what kind of jig are you using inside the tubes? I use the kind of jigs where you stick it inside the tube(the in-sider tube jigs), and that fislls up most of the tube, so how are you getting all of this injected in them? Thanks, Fisherman123

I know that you can use the bait pump but my real question was will injecting the crappie nibbles work with a tube that has an insider jig head inside it or do you have to rig it on a jig like you would with a twister tail
