Default Kentucky Lake - "the ledges"

    Hey guys,

Two weeks ago I fished the West Sandy area pretty hard and picked up 10 decent keepers. As I was taking out, I talked to another guy who had a nice mess that he caught at "the ledges". My pride prevented me from asking exactly where they were. I'd heard about them all my life. I'm certainly willing to swallow my pride online. Can anyone tell me what area "the ledges" are in and how to go about finding them?

    Thanks,

    Hi,

If the guy said ledges?..Ledges is just another term for drop offs...I am pretty sure..There is many different types of ledges...Deep channel ledges, mid depth ledges and shallow water ledges, and secondary ledges..So, it could have been any sort of ledge he was fishing...I read all these terms in Seasonal Structure crappie book by Tim Huffman...It is a pretty good book...Rates all structure and cover by the season...You can check out his books at monstercrappie.com...Hope I helped you out a somewhat..

he is talking about the old TN River Channel drop off. The crappie hang around these drop off in the winter time in huge schools. Find a bend in the old river channel or a creek and river intersection and you will find the fish especially if there is cover on the spot.

    Default ledge

A ledge is an underwater ridge. There are ledges in West Sandy and Big Sandy where the area was dredged many years ago. However, many people refer to
"ledges" as that area along the river channels. Some people refer to the edges of the channel as "drops". Some people reference the underwater ridges as "rises". So, it really depends upon with whom you are conversing.

    Default Thanks guys

I figured it was on the old river channel, but I wasn't sure. I really appreciate the info.
