I thinking of something like you put below a bird feeder to keep the squirrels out. Not much thinking to it!! Everyone doesn't drink beer.
Do you mean like a cut off beer can, lol.Just be simple and don't overthink a simple solution.

My pole is 4 foot high. I guess I could make an extension that has a quick snap and switch. The light would have to be 7' to be over my head. I like the idea of a base plate to shield the light heading down.
The bait shop I go to said someone just got a $150.00 fine for turning off bow light to fish. So don't want that.

My Wife Fillets The Fish! I am a fortunate man.
I too ahve my pole higher than my head. Then I wear a 3" wide brimmed hat to keep the ight out of my eyes. The light does provide some general lighting in teh boat to do basic chores, get beer, bait, etc.

thought the stern light was called the anchor light and had to stay on while the bow lights were running lights.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.
If you rob Peter to pay Paul, you can generally count on Paul's vote.
what gomer snerd said.
We flip kelp patties in the ocean and its really annoying having the light in your face. We never prepare so end up putting something over it, we use plastic bags all the time and they just barely cut the light down if their double bagged and we have never melted a bag. You can look for a lower wattage bulb and maybe put a plastic big gulp/ soda collector type cup over it.

Yes, it must always be on between the hours of sunset to sunrise.
Called an anchor light not becuase it shines light on your anchor, but must be lite while anchored at night. It must also be on while under way as well.
