A'm looking to purchase a trolling motor! reason cannot get variable speed out of my old even,r...
Want to buy a motor giude but i fish a lake with alot o stumps and noticed that the alluiminum might not be what i need!
Dont care for Minn k had 3.
Question is what would be the best var. speed t- motor that will handle hitting many stump's?
I dont want to keep a secondary hand held on there ,i like foot controlled!

I have had bad luck with MK as well, went through about three that all had issues (I was buying the lower end models) switched to Motorguide, did not like it at all. I gritted my teeth and went with a Minn Kota powerdrive, spend a little more money, and could not be happier. Best trolling motor I have ever owned.

Motor Guide makes a very good motor. More than hitting stumps I would concentrate on a motor that will push the size boat you have and will last all day on the Batteries. If you have a small Al. boat you can get away with a smaller motor. But if I were doing a lot of spider rigging I would have at least a 24V trolling motor.
Keep some for the pan, let the larger ones go back for another day!

He has a 1648 and battery time is not an issue as he is usualy off the water by 2pm at the very latest. I have never known Yankee to fish more than 6-8 hours. He needs a power drive Minn Kota like I told him already :D:D I cant get him to use the hand control Traxxis Like I have and love (its also farther away from the fish and we fish alot of shallow water!) but the power drive would be just what he needs in a variable speed unit. :P

I would opt for the motor guide, have one on my 16ft tracker and it has been a good one, i just go easy when i fish where there are going to be lots of stumps and stickups.

I've had them both and will never go back to Motorguide. I now run a 70lb MK and have hit a lot of stumps going pretty fast. It just bounces off and keeps going. I guess they have to since the shaft has a lifetime warranty and MK does honor it.

Minn Kota Power Drive Auto Pilot with the Co-Pilot if you can afford it. I bought mine five years ago and I have never looked back. Make sure you buy enough thrust pounds for your particular application. Good Luck!!!

I bought the smallest least expensive MK (Endura 30 with 30" shaft) they make and it works great for my little alum. 14' boat. Wish I had the cash for a foot or remote controlled unit.
