    Default Heaters

Well the fall bite is almost in full swing and sooner than later winter will be upon us. I have heard that some of the biggest fish are caught during the winter, but some people just dont want to fight the below freezing temperatures. Fortunately, there are many great heaters out there. What kind of heater do you use while fishing in the winter and why do you like your heater so much more than the others available?

I have a Mr. Heater Buddy that I use in my two person ice shanty and a Coleman Sportcat that I use in my one person ice shanty. I don't get the boat out durring the winter, so I can't help you there.

Both heaters work great for their intended use.

I fight the cold at Reelfoot when the fish are biting. And although My first winter I fished hard i caught alot of good fish, since I have learned the lake I catch just as quality fish all seasons. As for the heater, I can stand the cold to a point my rod tips freeze up so if it gets to where I need a heater im done till warmer weather!!!

My heater is internal. Wife sez she just keeps me around for shade in the summer and heat in the winter, so I got it made. I put on good clothes and hit my good spots first. Once the guides ice up or I feel cold in the core of my body I pack up. Gore tex fingertip gloves help with the hands. I've seen folks with a clear plastic room on their pontoon run a generator and a tv and heater, and the guys were outside on the front half dippin shrimp for all they were worth. It was a well thought out set up.

I use a Mr. Heater in my boat. If its windy sometimes it will blow it out...I try to position it where the back of it is to the wind. Sometimes I set it down on the deck behind my front platform and use it to warm my hands up. On days when the wind is not bad I have it on the front platform in front of me. It does seem to help.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

they use to have good catalytic heaters that worked good in the boat, But like other good things i guess some dumb gov. agent stopped them from selling them.

when the eyes freeze up in your rod just dip the tip in the lake and it will thaw
    enough for another cast.

but if you are fishing on a pier or from the bank just get a 5 gallon metal
bucket and fill the bottom 1/ 3 full of sand then fill with a bag of charcoal.

light that and it will warm you for hours.

I first bought a Mr. Buddy heater but whenever a breeze come by the flame goes out. More than a little disappointed but I still use it in my shop to warm my hands with if I'm out there doing anything during the cold days. Next, I bought this heater and it done a good job last winter to warm my hands by.

I have one of the coleman propane ones that you just prop up and it works really well and lasts a while too. Its only about 6"x12" so it doesnt take up space either. Just uses one of those small cannister size propane tanks. Oh, and it is fire proof like the others, just wouldnt want it blowing into my carpet cuz it will melt it fast.... The key in the winter is windproof stuff!

Even though I look like the 'Michlen' man with all the layers on, I can keep everything warm EXCEPT my hands. Hand warmers just don't get the job done. What I use is a 5 gal. bucket & a propane lantern. I set the lantern on low and put it in the bucket. Set the bucket between my legs while seated. Doesn't blow out & puts out just enough heat to warm my hands. Cheap & easy & effective. Gota love this one!!! <*)}}}><
