    Default Trolling

How many of you Troll for Crappie and what is your favorite technique, lure size, color, time of the year, water temp, and define your preferred location, etc? What do you do when the bite turns off?

It's a Crappie forum and I have seen a lot of BS threads, plus saw one saying there isn't much new in Crappie Fishing. Im betting there is a variety of techniques being used for Trolling. I am going to post the same for other forms of Crappie fishing.

Do a search on spider rigging and long line trolling or also known as flat line trolling and You will have hours of reading on the subject. there are all kinds of baits that work from minnows to several different plastics to crankbaits. Happy reading. CF

I like to combo longline and tightline troll between .7 and 1mph. I use two 14' and 2 12' extra limber tipped rods for the longlines two 10', two 8' and two 7' for the tightlines. I use 1/16 and 1/32oz jig heads with triple ripple grubs. Sometimes I add a split shot about 3' up the line for more depth. On the tightlines is use a two hook rig with a one ounce sinker made with two small 3-way swivels two feet apart using 3' leaders. I usually use minnows on at least one of the hooks maybe a jig on the other.

I started spider rigging (SLOW trolling) this past spring and havent stopped. Been catching fish all summer. I'm set up with 8 13' poles all fished out of the front of the boat. I use a 1 oz. sinker with either1/8 or 1/16 jigs or bare hooks on loop knots tied above the sinker.

I look for bait and fish those areas. If the bait is holding nearer the bank then I fish with my hooks shallower, usually about the depth the bait holds. When the fish stop biting is about the same time that you notice the bait is disappearing. Usually you can move out to deeper water and begin seeing bait again. I keep my hooks in or just below the bait.

I'll start out with every other pole a bare hook and the rest with a jig. Color varies from red/white to green/black. Anything with chart. seems to produce atleast some fish. I always tip jigs with minnows though.

I have long line trolled now for about 10 years, caught a LOT OF fish doing this, but I have been sprider rigging now for about 3 years and love it, I put more fish in boat this way than any other way.

Unfortunatelly my State has a two pole limit per person. Great info about boat speed. What do you guys use for lures, colors?

Tie more baits per line with loop knots. then You can cover more water column. if long lining, I would use a bait with some action. Kalin's grubs or southern pro hot grubs or charlie brewer sliders or Bobby Garland strollr's. CF

Started Long Line trolling in the late 1970's and still do. Have made a good many post on this board and the jig tying board about this so if you do a search or even look back just a few days there is lots of info on this. Also on my How To Page on my web site has a good amount of info on long line trolling.

I troll for slabs don't like much else. I troll blue/black green/black katlin tails and triple ripples with orange and green heads and catch fish in most lakes pullin at .9 -1.2 mph. if fish are deep double rig.
stops and starts work best for me. Not the best but I catch more than family and friends can eat
