2 cycle oil?

My 1957 Johnson has a mix of 24:1, not the 50:1 of more modern engines.

At the ratio of 24/1 you would need 16 oz of oil for each 3 gal of gas. 32 oz of oil for 6 gal of gas. The 5 gallons of gas would need 27 oz of oil at the 24:1 ratio. Your 1/2 small bottle for each 5 gal of gas would have to be almost a 1/2 gal bottle.

A pint to 6 gallons is what My mechanic has always told me. The old 24:1 motors, My dad told me they use to use regular 30 weight motor oil in those old outboard's gas mixtures but You mixed it twice as strong as the 2 stroke oil. he said back then, there was no two stroke oil. Is that why there is a 24:1 rating on oil or do they really need the double dose? CF
