Im the same way in BPS. My wife likes to up to Gurnee (4hr trip one way) Mall, I spend the day in BPS until she is ready to leave. Now that there is a BPS in Bolingbrook its only a 3 hr drive. Still to far except for the rare trips once every couple of years. My son was telling me we are getting a BPS in town. Could be a dangerous thing.
There are several other name brand stores in the area that I visit, however they arent close nor convienient so I visit them a couple times a year. Generally when the wife wants me to go shopping with her she bribes me with a stop at Dicks or Gander Mountain. Although Presleys is more geared to fishing and hunting than Gander and Dicks.
HOI Crappie Club
Where family and friends come to compete for a little more than bragging rights.
Quick, someone teach me how to fish so I can win this tournament!!!
Is every bass pro located in a "mill" the same layout, stuff, etc, no matter where u go in the US? Cookie cutter effect? I been inside the BPS in Concord, NC, been riding past the BPS in Destin, Fla and the two in GA. My friend thinks the BPS in myrtle beach is way cooler than the one in Concord.
Oh I could wrestle a monster fish
I LIVE 3 MINUTES AWAY AND MY WIFE WORKS THEIR. I'M GOING TO NEED TO HAVE A GARAGE SALE SOON.
It probably depends on the amount of square footage available in the building and where they are located. I've never been to a BPS store (they don't have them out here) but I've been to two different Cabela's, the one here in Boise, and the one in Lacey, Washington.
The Cabela's in Lacey is much larger, and they carry some of the same stuff, but also different stuff. Especially fishing and boating, since there's a lot of saltwater anglers out there. For instance, I bought a crab ring from them to help me land large fish off the dams here, and had to order it from the web page and have it shipped here to the Boise store. The Lacey store would have carried it in stock. Neither of them carry specialized crappie poles, while I'm told the ones in the South do. Then again, I'm betting the ones down south don't carry specialized salmon and steelhead rods either.
Don't worry, catch crappie.
All tackle is getting out of hand, but it doesn't stop us from getting what we want.

I can relate to not getting outta BPS for less than $100 dollars. It's kinda like Sams Club that my wife calls the $200 store. We used to live in Oklahoma many, many, many years ago and they had a Bass Pro Shops there in OKC in a downtown strip mall. Just a typical storefront about the size of a Mom and Pop hardware store. This was way before the big mega BPS stores now. I live in West Texas now and we have Academy Sports all over the place. The prices are comparable to BPS and Cabelas. Lot's of fishing and hunting gear as well as the team sports and such. However, I have found that the "in house" brand items at BPS and Cabelas are way better than the Academy "in house" branded gear.

"BPS in a strip mall"
Thats the best thing I like about BPS. I read a story about Johnny Morris.
When he got out of high school (mid 70's). He started with a 8 ft. tackle
display in daddy's booze store. Look what he has today. Now thats the
American dream.
