Yup, and it is out of warranty, of which they will be glad to tell you after you wait on the phone for an hour for support. If they answer.

I'm an electronics tech and have been for 30+ yrs. Work w/ all kinds of software/hardware configurations and just like most things "new", there will always be bugs to work out. Better to settle for a couple year old model that's been "debugged" than a spankin' new that will have you tearin' your hair out. JMO.

I agree about waiting a bit, but on the other hand you run into
    the planned obsolescence thingy...

I ain't talking about a new model coming out right after you buy, and
then your new toy isn't the hottest thing on the block anymore -

I'm talking about a unit that's only a few years old being dropped, can't
fix, can't replace with same, don't support anymore. Believe Lowrance
has been pretty guilty of this.

Seems like you're screwed whichever way you turn

All this stuff is planned for obsolescence. The designers start off with new stuff, but before the time they get it working, there is more new stuff on the chip market.

At least the software on the newer graphs can be upgraded to work out the bugs and to help retard inevitable obsolescence.

Sixfin, to change the size of the readouts on your screen go into the “Settings” menu and then “Overlay Data”. Then highlight the readout you want to change and press the “Zoom In” or “Zoom Out” buttons until you find the size you want.

If your sonar screen seems to slow down in shallow water, check to make sure your transducer is pointing straight down. If it is angled it may not be picking up enough returning signals as the “cone” is pretty small in shallow water.

If you want to make changes to your sonar screen like “Zoom In” and “Zoom Out” then select the Sonar Page and add the Chart Screen and visa versa. Since the same buttons perform the same function on both screens it’s not possible to change those same functions on both screens while they are both up.

Put the unit in the simulator mode and play with the buttons and familiarize yourself with the features/screens, etc. That is why most units have sim modes.

Take you wife, girlfriend, or significant other or you pet poochie and play with your simulator. Might get excited.

    Hey Tom:

I think you have "Simulator" and "Stimulator" confused.

When are you going to come over and show me how to catch some crappie? This fall would be good - Big J will stop and pick you up on the way - just say when.

Here's all I have to say, about Lowrance guys and this is after 16 years in the marine business.Never buy a Lowrance product the first year they make a change in their line up.Before all the haters start in trust me I've been there done it and have the t- shirt. Its the biggest headache from a dealer stand point there is.Lowrance dont care, and anyone that ever tried the consumer line will attest 2 hours on hold gets old.I honestly think they hope you get tired and hang up. Believe me the direct dealer line isnt much better.I have a customer who built the ultimate eithernet/nema back bone/siruis satellite/you name it system on 2 HDS10 with Yamaha guages and did I forget the fuel flow guage and 3 temp sensor for the 2 livewells plus the transom temp. Then not to mention they wont read the Navionics chips do to a clich in the unit. We've been trying to get everything to talk to each other for over 2 months now.I was a religious Lowrance guy for over 12 years and can honestly say that since I switch brands if I call Alabama I can always expect a sweet southern bell answer my call, and not sit the next 4 hours saying you call will be received in the order it was taken.Once last point I want to make to clear any smoke.I'm not indorsed or sponsored by either company, but have ran Humminbird for going 5 years, and if my new 1197 cant find a 5' by 7' brush pile in the middle of nowhere I'll kiss your behind.PJ

Thanks for the info Jerry. I went to Jet-A-Marina yesterday and John gave me a great tutorial on the unit. Done away with a lot of the frustration. Still having trouble with the screen jerking a little. I found out that my old 102c had spoiled me. It scrolled so smooth and this one being a little jerky is just the nature of the beast. That is until Lowrance can come up with an update to fix it.
