    Default Grand Bayou Reservoir 12/27/2024

Was on the water from 10 AM to 2 PM. Fished down toward the dam. Water temp 56-57. I used minnows and had Livescope running. I saw a couple of larger schools but mostly small groups of crappie roaming and large balls of bait.

The bite was slow. I didn't detect a bite from some of the fish I caught, I just saw them approach and take the minnow on my scope. Many others came to the bait without taking it. Managed to bring 8 decent keepers home which will make a couple of meals for my wife and me.

Went back to Grand Bayou Reservoir yesterday to finish off the shiners I bought for the previous trip. My wife and I caught several more small fish than last week and put a couple of 14-15" fish in the ice chest. We brought home 9 decent fish between 12-15". We also caught a 2.5# bass that I released to fight another day.

I tried pitching jigs and a 1/16 oz roadrunner to fish that I saw on Livescope 15-40' away. A few reacted to the lures but none took it. I'm still trying to learn this Livescope.

Good post, those crappie will make a good meal. I'm still learning how to use my FFS. I found "Dangle Nation" on YouTube awhile back. He posted several good videos that helped me.

I have been doing this a while and feel like I have gotten pretty proficient at it. I think you would do better with a straight jig instead of a roadrunner for this stile of fishing. I like to use something very, very light so the jig can be kept above the fish nearly stationary instead of strolled past them.

I tried 1/16 oz jigs with no bites but switched to the roadrunner after a while. I don't fish for crappie that much so I need to work on it and get more experience. Thanks for your comments. I'll keep trying until I get better at it.
