    Default Hopefully some relief

For the last year we have been really plagued with Salvinia on Black Bayou at Hosston. It is so bad you cannot see water from my dock. It looks like I need to mow around my dock. I talked to the state and was told that they had no money to help and I was on my own. Well we now have some real cold weather in the forecast. If it gets as cold as it is forecast to, I might get some relief. It sure would be nice to see that stuff killed back by the cold. Maybe there is hope yet for that old lake.

I feel your pain and aggravation. We've been dealing with the salvania take over on Black Lake (Natchitoches parish) for the last 5 years. The state and lake commission have been trying everything to get it under control with not much luck. I'm with you hoping and praying that several days of freezing weather will help get rid of this junk for good

Well last night it got down to 1 or 2 degrees. Tonight it will be back down around 17. I am real hopeful that last night did the trick. I would be willing to bet the lake is frozen in front of my camp. The low tonight should help kill what is left. I am looking forward to fishing again.

Sure is a pretty site on Lake Bistineau to see the salvina rafted up by the wind and frozen with about 3 inches of snow and ice on top of it. I remember how the last big freeze knocked the stuff back for awhile hopefully this record breaking winter storm will kill it. if it does kill the salvina then the winter storm is a blessing.

I love fishing Black Bayou in Hosston for those big red ears, but I've had trouble with the plant the last few times I went out there. I agree with Buster....it'll be a huge blessing if this cold weather kills it on all of the affected lakes in the area. I saw pictures from Caddo lake where it was frozen about 10-15 feet out from the bank. Maybe further (since it was a picture, it was hard to tell). Keeping my fingers crossed!

I had a phone conversation with a neighbor up there and he sent e a picture of the bayou iced over. Hopefully this killed a bunch of the salvinia. We got two more nights of very cold temperatures to further damage the salvinia. I am getting hopeful of being able to fish up there again. I am sure this helped Caddo, Black Lake and Bistineau

    Hey Charliee,
Have you heard any new updates on whether the salvinia looks to be dying/dead out in Hosston? Just wondering if you could tell yet whether it made a difference or not.
    Thx

I went up to the camp today to repair a water line that broke due to the freeze. The raft is still there. the top is brown and come of the stuff underneath is brown also. But unfortunately I saw some green vegetation. It did lok like it was suffering but I am afraid all of it did not get killed. Time will tell. I am going to see if the state will give me some weevils to put out.
