Is there anyone on here that can give me some information on vernon lake? Mainly, where to launch and if it is usable now? I know it was dry for years but heard that it is back up. With Bundicks out due to Hurricanes and Anacoca being drawn down, just trying to find some more options to crappie fish. Thanks for any help you all can give me.

You know me, I'm always ready for a road trip. Chip Newest member of Traveling Team Overallsshadow thanked you for this post
Can't help with Vernon but I know the Calcasieu River had some decent sac a lait fishing pre-Laura. I don't know if Laura hurt the population like Rita did. Another option would be the Sabine river.
I read somewhere(may have been here) that wildlife and fisheries did some restocking at Bundicks

Yes, one of my main fishing partners home river is Calcasieu and he has gone a couple of times with NO bites! He is also the one that I fish Sabine with and it is good for bass but haven't found any sacs in there yet. And yes they restocked Bundicks but that means it will be at least a year before it is good again and I don't have a problem waiting, just wanted some other options to fill in till it is back to it's normal self again.
Thanks.

That's sad to hear about the Calcasieu. Hopefully it rebounds quickly. What are your thoughts on the Big Burns this year? I hope the fishing will be decent, that's worth the trip from Lafayette to get on those big chinkapin. I never got to fish the canals though, would like to try for sacs in there
If, and that is a big IF!, the canals are clear from hyacants and giant sylvania (sp), the canals are an awesome place to catch bream and sacs! I am hoping the wind from the hurricanes blew most of the "bad" grasses out of the burns! With all that being said, I did have a buddy text me that he had heard from a reliable source that the burns was NOT going to open this year. I don't worry too much about hearing these rumors because I hear them EVERY year! Hopefully they will open b/c at this point all my closest fisherers are 2 hours away, Burns is 20 minutes! I guess we will just have to wait and see. If you are wanting the big chinks, June is usually the best month for them I have found. And a week or 2 before they start is usually when I catch my big blue gills!
