My dad has had several cut out (he was a life guard in his teen years). I wear sunscreen every time I go out in the summer, winter clothes usually cover all areas and I have started wearing a hat that covers my ears. Every time I bring dad out, he says "I sure am glad to see you wearing that hat!" I have a buddy that never wears sunscreen fishing, even though I urge him to every time!

Well here's another warning for you, something you don't hear enough about. The inside of your eye has the same cells as your skin and therefore can develop skin cancer which is usually melanoma. I have a tumor in my right eye that is believed to be melanoma. Right now I have to go to a ophthalmologist oncologist every 6 months once it gets to .3mm I'll have to have radiation to kill the tumor and with that a 100% chance of loss of vision to an unknown degree. I used to be a lineman for Entergy and never wore sunglasses at work or while fishing. I do now and hope y'all do too.

    Hey M C,

My wife is a patient of Dr. Matthews in Memphis Tn. Matthew W. Wilson, MD : University Clinical Health

She had her treatment in September. Her tumor has shrunk from 8mm to 6mm as of 2 weeks ago.

She has had problems with her eye site and her Dr. appointment was cancelled last spring due to covid. She finally saw her doctor late August. He determined she had a detached retina. Went to retina specialist next day and he found the tumor. The retina was not detached but it was push over due to the fluid build up from the tumor. We went to Matthews within a few weeks, she went threw the surgery to implant the radioactive disc. Week later she had it removed. Looks to be successful as the tumor is shrinking. She can read the large K on the eye chart now. Most of the fluid is gone.

She's been a trooper threw it all.

Dr Matthews is who I am seeing as well. Glad to hear that she's been a trooper through it all, it's not anything someone wants to contend with. Sounds like she's weathered the storm that I've got coming. So far my tumor hasn't changed any over the last year, too that I praise the Lord. My continued prayer is that it never does change so I can avoid the radiation and preserve my eye sight. Guys and gals wear eye protection, just like sun screen, believe us it's not something you will want to have to deal with.
