    Default Toledo Bend LTD trip

Went to the bend with a group of friends yesterday. We fished with Living the Dream Guide Service. Weather was a real problem, with a strong cold front coming in around 2 pm. Guide offered to let us cancel, but we had some in the crew that had come a long way, so that wasn’t an option. The wind really limited where we could safely go. We fished around maybe 30 different logs, trees, and brush piles in 20 to 30 feet of water. Guide had Garmin Livescope. First time I have fished with that. You could easily see the fish, but getting them to bite was another thing. There were 9 of us, every one caught at least one crappie. Some caught a few. It started raining around noon so we called it quits. We all had a good time and it was easy to see that our guide did his best to put us on fish. He gave us a discount that we probably offset with tips. I really enjoyed seeing the livescope, and getting to play with it a bit. I will go back again the first chance I get.

I check most of my adjoining states post. I have also spent most of my career working La. love all you people good folks. But with that said I just saw your post and one thing I really liked. You can have all the technology in the world but if they ain’t bit’en they ain’t bit’en. Just FYI I found a good spot yesterday up river where I live. Caught a few hung on the structure the bite stopped. I moved down a few hundred yards was going back to the same spot. Before I went back a guy up river was birddogging me while I was catching them. He moved in with big fancy rig with Livescope he never landed a fish. If they were easy to catch everybody would be doing it. And Livescope can’t teach you the tricks. I am sure the guides knew the fish just wasn’t biting.

Thanks Silverroach! That was my takeaway from the trip. The guide being upfront about the effect of the conditions, and ability with livescope to see if the fish are there, at what depth, and watch them in real time react to my bait. Certainly, over time, one could fine tune his presentation and offerings.

This guide had at least hundreds of waypoints and moved quickly from one to another depending on what he saw on livescope. Then he could coach your presentation until you got a bite!

In a way, I might have learned more from a bad day than a good day. That is often the case in my crappie fishing. On bad days I experiment with different techniques and search for new spots. That is a lot of what keeps it interesting.
