Calcasieu lake will be tough for awhile after the hurricanes came through there! Glad you had a good day with your son.

Went last thursday around the intracoastal below Vinton. Fish were small. Kept 2 out of 4 reds, 1 bass, and 11 out of 17 catfish. Saved the reds to broil, stunk the grease with half of the rest. Was just happy to catch a fish again. We also caught 6 smallish drums and goos. Brother caught a drum about 20 lbs. I said I hope I never catch one of those again. Sure enough, a little later I caught one close to 30lbs. That is a nasty, ugly fish. Again, hope I never catch another.

Laikyn has caught one that went 44 lbs and I have caught one that went 40 lbs. Tal is right, the bigger they are, the uglier they are!

years ago my brother and I were in the marsh on a shrimp boat. Shrimp all night running skimmers or standing on a wharf and lowering net. Fished in between naps. My brother caught a 35 lb drum and I caught a 33 lb drum weighed on the big boat then released. That was at least 20 years ago. I said then I hope I never catch another. I have caught a 20 lb in between those 2. Enough!!!

We were actually cast netting shrimp, well I was and Laikyn was fishing, around about 18 other boats behind the wiers. She says "Dad, I got a fish!" I am thinking she caught someone's anchor line, until the line takes off! She fought the fish for AWHILE before it tired out and came along side the boat and I was able to roll it in. Everyone out there gasp as it came across the boat! Laikyn sure was happy! Got a great picture of her and me (holding up the fish) at the house. The fish was almost as big as she was!
