    Default River trip with dad

Well decided to give Houston River another try Friday. Decided to take aluminum boat this time so I could bring dad. Very slow! Caught 3 small sacs, 1 eater bass and a few small bream and goggle eye. Only kept the bass. Must have just been a slow day all around this weekend because I had a buddy (RichieRich) go to Calcasieu River Saturday and he only caught 2 small sacs and a small bass. And our other buddy (who always catches) went to Annacoca and scratched! Took the selfie with the small sac to jack with our buddy that says he won't take a selfie with any fish under 14"! Oh well at least I got to bring dad out!Name: 20200717_101722.jpg

You know most Dad's teach us young'uns how to fish, but with my Dad it was just the opposite. Dad was a commercial shrimper from the age of 15 until he went to work driving a tugboat for Texaco when he was around 24 years old. He always wanted to fish but had no trust in outboard motors. I bought an old wooden hull with a Johnson 35 on it and thus the lessons begin. He finally got to liking fishing and boating so much that he bought his own. He was in his late 50's then and he used that rig to salt water fish and shrimp until the motor gave out. He then bought another motor and ran it untill he was 75, the age I am now. He then retired from fishing and spent his last 17 years on the bank. He had wore himself out, especially with the shrimping. Rest in peace Dad, it was fun while it lasted.

You said it well. I am your age and certainly can relate, although my dad taught us how to fish.
