Default Henderson, Lake Verret, Des Allemands, Black Lake

I’m new to kayak fishing for sac-a-lait. I mostly fish saltwater for redfish and specks in my kayak.

Can y’all send me a pm or an email of where to go sac-a-lait fishing in my kayak in Henderson, Lake Verret, Des Allemands, and Black Lake?

    Questions:

    1) What times of the year are these spots good to fish for sac-a-lait?

    2) What baits/colors are popular for catching sac-a-lait?

    3) What kind of structure and depth should I be targeting sac-a-lait fall, winter, spring, summer?

I want to go sac-a-lait fishing on Thursday somewhere that I can bring home some sac-a-lait for dinner that night.

Welcome to the forum from deep south La. Henderson is very fishable with a kayak. You can launch at the free public landing at the Butte LaRose exit under the I-10 brigdes. From there it's a short paddle to the nearest water that leads either on the south side or the north side into the swamp. Fish can be just about anywhere on a given day.
Lake Verret has some spots if the wind isn't up. The lake can get rough. The Attackapaw (sp) landing at the end of highway 401 from highway 1 at Napoleonville put you right on the lake. With a light north to east wind you should be able to fish the shore line in both directions from the landing. Lake DesAllamandes is reachable from highway 643 off of highway 20 near Vacharie. There are some undeveloped lots where you can launch right off of the road and fish the dug canals. Good luck with your fishing. Taking your time to learn an area well will do you more good than trying to learn a bunch of places not so well.

Thank you for the info PawPaw “gene”. I appreciate it. I’m gonna try Henderson on Thursday morning. Launch my kayak at Kern’s launch. I have 3 poles with thill 1/16 ounce slip crappie corks and 1 pole with a 1/16 ounce road runner spinner. Hoping to learn a lot and catch some sac-a-lait to fry up whole for me, my parents and little brother. Henderson will probably be the place I really focus on learning how to fish for sac-a-lait in my kayak.

Oh yea Lake Verret can get dangerous when it’s windy. I’ll definitely have to watch the weather forecast very closely when I plan to go sac-a-lait fishing there in my kayak.

Are the sac-a-lait biting in Des Allemands this time of year?

I keep hearing a few reports via the grapevine that some are being caught. At this time of year it good to look for them near or in grass lines along canal banks or shallow water in the lake especially what is call Baie Chevreuil in the southwest corner of the lake.

Is the Baie Chevreuil reachable in the kayak?

I'll respond for gene You can also put in at kraemer and the lake is easily reached from there. ( would say less than a mile) and bay Chevreil is on the left as soon as you reach lake. The points there can also be good and right by launch is a bridge you go under that can be good for sacalait and bass

10-4. I’ll have to give it a shot when the sac-a-lait are biting there.

Hello SS, it's been a while. Have you been going and just keeping quiet or like I, I haven't been fishing. Linda's arm is still being repaired and hopefully in a couple of months all will be will.

Hey redfish, welcome....always nice to see another kayak.
I’ve posted a half dozen maybe a few more trips of places I take my kayak. Ramah, Des Allemands in the Vacherie area, a couple bayous and lake Verret. Search my posts because a few of them I posted a map of where I launched.
I haven’t touched a fish here in quite sometime so I don’t have any recent reports.

Hey PPG I haven’t had enough free time to wiggle away for a trip, but come end of October I’ll have my weekends back.

I hope her arm heals quickly, I think we all miss the fishing reports of you two on the water.
