    Default Cranking Cyress

Made an early trip to Cypress Lake yesterday morning and caught a few quality fish cranking, but not plenty.
All were caught on Bandit 300 and Strike King 3XD lures.

A little persistence gave you enough to heat up the Peanut Oil

Nice catch. I don't know what happened, but early this summer I was going to cypress cranking and catching 20 or 25 within 4 or 5 hours, but now I can go all day and struggle to catch 10. They'll be really nice ones tho

I'm assuming that isn't the cypress lake on the UL campus...

Nice catch. Think the fish are feeling the summer funk now

An old friend of mine from MO is working in town for the next two months. He's an avid bass fisherman. I haven't been fishing in some time now and Sunday was the perfect opportunity to hit the lake. My friend had never heard of pulling cranks. As soon as we caught the first few, he was hooked. He was saying they didn't catch them this big back home. They were decent sized blacks and whites, but I never did get us on any big fish. I really wanted to put a couple in the box that were bumping 2lbs, but it never happened. We did hook up a 3 lb largemouth that gave him a bit of fun on a 16' trolling rod. There were at least six boats crappie fishing. It didn't take long for most of them to throw in the towel. The few that stuck around that we talked to hadn't caught more than a few, if any, so I was glad we didn't get skunked and left with enough for him to take home to his family when he goes home for the weekend. We pretty much worked the whole lake from the campground to the dam. Every fish but three all came off a point on the edge of the creek channels from 14-16 FOW with cranks 12-14 feet deep. All but two caught on bone with orange belly. Only ran Bandit 300s. Tried Mad Cow, Pearl, Hotty Totty, Natural Shad, Pearch, White w/Black Spatterback yellow belly, and Taco Salad. Only thing that caught crappie was mad cow, Spatterback, bone, and one on Hotty Totty. Everything else just caught catfish. Started at 1.5mph. Played with depths and speed. Most were caught on 50' of line out at 1.3mph. Only caught three fish between 12:30-1:30, threw in the towel around 3. Best bite was around 8am, but was few and far between after about 10am.
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work, unless you fish for a living.

Mad cow and Hotty Totty worked well for me today down here at Dubisson.

Only need three more years before I can think like a fish.
