Default Fix trailer brief trip on the red

Replaced two rollers on the boat trailer. Tried the cold chisel(thanks Skippa), and it worked great on the first one. That was the one I put on last weekend that was too short, but I had to use something. I put the chisel just outside the base of the little rectangle part that holds the cap on, and gave it whack. That flattened that part and the cap popped off! The other one had been on there for 10-15 years and that trick didn't work on it. Plan B was a cordless sawzall with a hacksaw blade. That did it! Wear some eye protection! I didn't have any issues, but if a blade broke or a piece of metal came off, it could get bad.

New rollers on, time for a brief fishing trip. Caught 9. Only got bites in the deepest water(8-9ft), and had to let the jig sit still, and then drop it 4-6 inches. Got a few very soft pecks, but I kept the jig in their face and eventually caught most of them.

That makes me think ,When was the last time I checked the trailer real good. When the boat is off of it is better than crawling under it. I ca still hear my Daddy preaching that to me.

My dad does that to me too! It's a good thing! Went back yesterday pm in the heat to check on some new places. Caught 3! It was really hot!! The crappie were just barely pecking on my jig, If I could keep it in their face, a few would bite.

    Waiting for a cold front!!

I haven't been up around RR South lately, there are definitely some rocks around the entrance to the Lake the marina is on. I saw a 35 foot boat take the wrong side of the rocks and jump over them. He ended up tied to trees to keep the boat from sinking. Fortunately no one hurt except financially. I have been up as far as "do not dredge", and the main river is about the same if you stay in the middle of the main channel. Above that I don't know. I went down as far as the cut that goes to the east toward Little Ninock(just above the dam). The last time I went down the entrance to Clarks, it got narrow and shallow at the river entrance, then ok until the hole in the rocks on the right, then a really deep hole were you used to go tp Clark's to the left, then abruptly very shallow. Through the hole in the rocks and then it got very shallow. Took three tries to get through with the trolling motor held up with the rope and big motor trimmed up. Caspiana gets very shallow after you go in the rocks and back to the north. I had to cut through the woods. Stumpy! Going into Little Ninock area, just north of the dam, it is really shallow with a narrow channel through the cut in the island from the river, then ok, but still lots of stumps and landmarks have changed as you go back to the east.
Going into the Whitehouse area, the North hole in the rocks it gets very shallow with a narrow channel, but the river is down a bit since I was there, so it might be impassable. I did see an aluminum boat go that way a couple weeks ago, and he apparently made it out. The south hole in the rocks is about the same. There are some stumps if you get too far away from the rocks on the inside, and it gets shallow about 400 yards up along the rocks. Going into McDade is ok if you take it easy or really know the way. There are lots of stumps and maybe some pipe under the water. Beehive seems to be ok, but I didn't go back in there very far.
I didn't fish around the Landing just above the dam on the west, but the water looked good. Should be some in there somewhere.
I didn't fish this weekend, but my friend caught them pretty good on jigs in 8 to 10 feet of water. He said they were biting funny. You had to talk them into biting. The water is changing, got a bit of suspended mud in it according to him.

I fished buhlow yesterday. The fish were less than enthusiastic and small but we managed a few. Single poled mostly no cork and had to find a laydown with water movement to get bit. Would have pulled more cranks in a couple of areas but my son was with me and trolling is not for him.

You are welcome. The river is always changing, but especially after a flood. Be careful!!
