Default Two Days On The Red

Fished Sat and Sun on the Red.

Sat morning there was a boat near where I wanted to fish. It's my friend's spot, so I fished another area until the boat left. I was concentrating on expanding the areas that I have caught fish, and fine tuning the pattern, I fished some stumps in 6-7 fow, and found the fish near the bottom, and taking their time about biting. But when I slowed down, the would thump a shiner or a jig. I moved to another area that is a foot or two deeper, and the bite there was a bit better. I was able to expand this area a lot. Had a 3 lb bass on for a bit, but it tied me up and broke off. When I retied, I made a drop shot rig with a single hook 2.5 feet above a 3/8 oz sinker. The jig rig was the same as last week. the new shiner rig was much easier to drop in next to a stump and hold it still. That really worked well, and my catch rate increased. I saw the boat I mentioned earlier leave, so I moved to the other area. Seemed like a fish on every stump! I was thinking that I didn't remember catching two crappie from the same stump, so i slowed down, and caught 2 fish from each of 2 different stumps. I fished until 4 pm, and caught about 50 fish. I only kept 7 to give to a friend.

Today I started a little later. Saw the same boat again, but this time he was in the spot I fished first on Sat. I tried a new spot with no luck at all. Then moved to Sat's 2nd spot, and caught a few, but nothing like Sat, and it took them longer to make p their mind to bite. It was noticeably hotter. Tried another spot from years ago, nada. Boat finally left, and moved to last area from Sat. Caught a few more, and called it a day with 15 or so, all released.

It was good to fish different areas when the fish were biting well, and also not so well. Slowing down and fishing the right depth seemed to be the key.Name: IMG_2350.jpg

Which pool are you fishing in? I've tried pool 2 twice with no luck.

Pool 5. Like I said, efforts to find other fish were disappointing. I think there are a few places where the water is right. Not unusual for the Red.
