    Default sinker weight

Just starting to spider rig a little. I usually always use the lightest weight possible when fishing. Today I was at Larto (14 keepers) using a 1/4 oz weight. A couple of guys came by me and we started talking. They said to always use at least 1/2 oz weight because it will put a slight bend on the rod and when a crappie bit it, it would actually let the pole rise do to loosing resistance of the weight due to most of them feeding up. Makes sense once I got to thinking about it. What yalls thoughts?
While on the subject, how often do yall use a jig tipped with shiners during the summer? I was using straight shiners today.
    Thanks

I use a 1/2 oz most of the time because I want the fish to feel as little resistance as possible. Faster and deeper pushing I go to 3/4 or 1 oz. but lots of times in shallow water fishing extremely slow I drop back to 1/4 oz especially fishing bare hooks and minnows. Let’s them be a little more active. About 90% of the time I fish a pony head with plastic tipped with a minnow. My advice is fish as light a weight as possible based on your fishing conditions. That’s why I keep bunches of Riggs tied up with different weights on.

I don't know too much about all them sinker weights, but I know that 14 keepers is a pretty good day on the water. Congratulations!

I use 2 oz weights going 1.5-2 mph . I use 12 ft to 16 ft cane poles, weights keep baits about 8-10 ft down. I troll in 16 to 30 ft of water. I run 16 to 18 poles at one time. I never tip jigs with shiners. Each pole has jig and a shiner , double rig.

I normally use 1/2 oz given the wind isn't too bad but I have used as much as 1 oz. The funny thing about this is I heard that conversation. I'm the guy that was in the camo xpress.
