    Default Sunday at cypress

Went to cypress early Sunday morning and pulled some crainkbaits before the skiers and wakeboarders showed up, I caught a few small ones, but most were in the 12 to 14 inch range, but they were super thick. Caught mostly on white bandits 200s pulling around 1.75 mph Name: IMG954873.jpg

Oh and I forgot, I broke a rod lol, I was pushing some off the front of the boat too and one got hung on a stump or something and before I could do anything it was bent over under the boat, and broke about halfway up lol. I had just put that power pro depth-hunter line on my reels, and it didn't stand a chance. I was using a 15 pound test leader of mono but I'm guessing the braid was what hung because it snapped my rod in half

I've never fished Cypress but if that was an open area part of the lake and you were catching fish around there I hope you marked that spot on GPS because I bet you could go back there and cast a single jig around it and find fish.

Yes that's what I normally do, but it seems like they don't school up real good, I'll find one or two here and there, but so far I haven't been able to find a big school of them and be able to just sit on them and catch a bunch, but I'm still learning to how to read my garmin echomap plus so I'm sure that's got a lot to do with it.

great catch Paris, good to hear from Cypress.
That broke rod is one of the reasons I don't use braid, retying the whole rig is cheaper than buying new rod or tips.

Last trip I made they were not schooled up and caught scattered fish on Cypress and Black Bayou.

Me too, I'll find a couple here and a couple there but so far I haven't found any big schools of them, I've been fishing this lake a lot lately, from the boat ramp in the park, all the way back down to the spillway, using my side imaging and down imaging the whole time and have only found them grouped up in like 2 or 3 or maybe 5 fish at a time, I've found a few big schools on my ff but every time I fish them I've only caught channel cats. I've had real good luck just trolling crainkbaits. There's this older man I've become friends with that fishes it every day with minnows, and he does real good, but he's doing the same as me, just bouncing around finding two or 3 at a time
