Good report PPG...
After a much too long time I put the boat in the water yesterday. It wasn’t the easiest to do by myself with all the high water but I got it done without getting wet. Thankfully the boat ran fine and although I didn’t go specifically to fish I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to give it a try. It was also a trip to check out my new fish finder since my bow unit bit the dust. All is well but I just need to learn a little more about it. I did end up catching one sacalait and four eating size bluegills.
We all have our stories off the big one that got away boy this one way was new to me. I was using my long pole to drop a small plastic bait on a shiner hook. Couldn’t use a jig head because of all the grass. I should of had my fly rod and a small popper. Anyway I dropped the little bait into a open space in the grass and as soon as it hit the water it got attacked by a small bluegill. I jerked my pole pulling the small fish almost out the water only to see the large mouth of a bass try to engulf the small fish but I had pulled it out of its reach. It looked to be about a 4 pounder.

Congrats buddy on getting out and not getting wet.
Nice post and the makings for a fine fish dinner. WTG
Pass the "Sportsman Baton" on before you're gone, promote values for others to hunt and fish upon.
Dinner it was my friends, sure tasted good. With the news that the Morganza spillway will be open starting on Sunday that can only mean that the waters will only get higher. We are positioned between the Mississippi and Atchafalaya rivers. The pressure of such a great amount of water trying to get to the Gulf causes the water to start moving sideways because it cannot all flow due south. That sideways flow is what put all our bayous out of their banks. It was a bad spring with all the rain and winds and looks to be a pitiful summer of extra high water. The fish are there and those making their way out are catching good catches but it's not for the aged and frail. Launching can be dangerous so we stay away.
