    Default Night Fishing for Crappie

Curious if you local guys do much night fishing under lights ? Thinking about a return trip to D'arbonne in mid summer. Have a gut feeling all those slabs will be stacked up in the river channels !! How bad are them skeeters down there on summer nights ?? Thanks for any input

Summer brings to mind when crossing Hwy 33 over the Lake Swarms of Bugs lifting from the lake covering the front of the Car and windshield -- Looking like Skidters but Not... My Brother said they were Blind Mosquitoes but what would he Know --- Anyway they dont bite.. then while running Trot Lines on the Ouachita River - as long as we were on the River not one Bug Bite -- but hit the Bank and it was a different story ... covered with Blood Suckers

Not bad with submersible light. Above water is bad Green better than white. Not always at the light lots of the time on the edge

A breeze helps keep them off at night, but I use a thermocell if it's not windy. I've only used my submersible light twice, with 50% success...lol There was a front coming through once, which kicked up the wind and threw off the bite. Sure looking forward to trying it again though!

    Agreed.
Have always used a lantern hanging OUT from the boat. Bugs like the light, bugs burn on the light. Bugs fall in water.
I wouldn’t put a drop light out until 7:30 at this time of year. Wait an hour and put the offering on the outside of the ring.

Moon is defiantly a factor if moon is bright your attraction is much less. Darker the better. May have to start late or start early in the moon rise/phase
