    Default Oh Well...

It was such a pretty day last Thursday (1/17) wife and I went out to Henderson to run around and check to see what areas the water was clearing up in....found a few decent places but couldn't find any bites...ran around from 12:30 till 2:30....only saw 3 trailers at the launch and at least 2 of those were hunters...as I was putting the boat back on the trailer the motor died....tried to start it and it just beeped but would not turn over....I know it has to be in neutral to start so I moved it from run to reverse several times and tried again....thought I may have to load it with the trolling motor but it finally cranked....so, loaded it quickly...later on at home after close inspection (and after talking with my mechanic) it looks like my control unit needs replacing....I guess 12 years (and a heck of a lot of trips) was the life of that....so, I will be taking it in next Thursday....in the meantime, I got a new load of firewood to enjoy....like today...

Mr. Bruce, another good thing is; it happened back at the launch instead of 30-40 minutes away from the truck in the back of one of those long canals ya'll fish. Even in the worst of times, there are always blessings to count. Good luck getting back on the water very soon. And tell Mrs. Didi that I miss her bird pictures.

Yep that was a convenient break down that saved spoiling some live action when they are biting.

Amen Pastor, that same thought was going through my mind as I read the post.

UPDATE.....there are only two reasons (that I know of) why a motor will not turn over when trying to start....one is, the motor is not in neutral....the other is, the battery is dead....thinking my one year old battery was good, (even though my wife was playing the radio that day), I assumed I was having a problem getting the motor in neutral.....turns out, I was wrong.....went to check with the mechanic this morning and it turns out that the battery was dead....he gave it a fast charge and bingo...no problems....and the best part, NO CHARGE.....I know that they spent at least an hour on it....what a Blessing....

So, look out fishes, I am coming "locked and Loaded".....but, I will be charging my cranking battery after every trip now...my 150 Mercury Optimax needs a super hot battery to crank....
