Yes. 1/8th ounce jighead through the grass mats and in submerged treetops in the middle of the canal. No jigging required. Juat drop it down really slow. When it hits the bottom bring it back up really slow. If I don't get hit I move to the next spot. Ill keep going back to the same 4 or 5 spots all day.

good info ----- It's been awhile (like 4 yrs) but usually in mid Feb where the Chinquapin Canal runs into Bayou Chene Blanc had some good catches but the sacs run on the small size. Also in May / June it's a great bream / google-eye flyfishing area.

Thanks Stickem for the details on your technique I'm learning to fish a jig pole and that helps.

[QUOTE=Stickem;3757454]I've been fishing the Bayou Chene Blanc area just outside of Maruepas just about every weekend since Christmas. Each weekend I notice more and more fish showing up in typical spawning areas. They're still 6 to 10 feet down but back in the dead end canals. Through December I wasn't catching many bigger ones but as each week goes by I'm getting more and more in the 12 inch range. The ones I caught yesterday were loaded with eggs. One of the biggest ones didn't have eggs or sperm sacks. I'm guessing it already spawned out. Spawn it coming. Get ready.

Now this is a real fishing report! Thanks Stickem.

Water went down a bit the last two days Skip hopefully this will continue. I don’t the this will mean an early spawn for our area though.

How's the water in black lake? Any grass in it? Blue boy canal? Haven't fished that area for a few years. Bin stuck on the ticfaw and Tfunky.

Black Lake is usually pretty clean. If we get some east wind for a few days it'll dirty it up a little. Lots of grass in it. I'm not really sure what you're referring to when you say Blue Boy Canal. I usually don't make it past Black Lake from Chinquapin Canal. I haven't needed to go much further than that to find fish. Is that the canal off the Blind River just before you get to the lake?

Yes, Last one on the left before the lake. House boats and camps at the entrance. Usually stays pretty, especially at the back.
