    Default Early Spawn

I've been fishing the Bayou Chene Blanc area just outside of Maruepas just about every weekend since Christmas. Each weekend I notice more and more fish showing up in typical spawning areas. They're still 6 to 10 feet down but back in the dead end canals. Through December I wasn't catching many bigger ones but as each week goes by I'm getting more and more in the 12 inch range. The ones I caught yesterday were loaded with eggs. One of the biggest ones didn't have eggs or sperm sacks. I'm guessing it already spawned out. Spawn it coming. Get ready. I'm glad to see somebody's catching. Nice fish. The water is high and muddy up my way.

Ever throw those in the grease. I haven't tried it myself but some people like 'em.

    Nice looking fish!
I'll fry a few crappie eggs each year. Doesn't take many to go a long way for me though.

We fight over the eggs at my house. When cooking them split the egg sack with a knife to keep them from popping in the grease.

That's why they aren't in the gut bucket. I didn't have enough to eat for myself so those went to the cat but most of the time I'll fry them fresh out of the fish.

The fish aint bad either! You aren't the only one that I heard talking about an early spawn this year. Thanks for posting.

That's the only clean water I can find around there. Everything else is chocolate milk.
