    Default Orange Grove

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook:
My dad spoke to a gentlemen today who was recently run out of orange grove. Disclaimer- I do not know exactly where he was in Orange Grove, other than I took the conversation as he was in one of the main canals and NOT in a pond.
He said he was approached by a gentlemen in a duck boat with a gun on his lap. The guy asked him to leave, to which he obliged. Just before leaving the gentlemen tasked him to release all his fish.
I posted this mostly as an FYI to us all. OG gets hit a lot in the spring and just be prepared that you may be approached and how to handle yourself. I really don’t want to see someone get hurt over water access.

PawPaw, have you heard anything about this? I thought it was open to fish?

Paul I took a ride back there on Wednesday or Thursday mostly to run the boat as Linda can't really fish yet with her broken arm. I did jig a while and cast for bass but I got no bites. I saw a couple of other boats in there fishing and no one was running anybody out. No clue. I think I would have respectively asked his name and by what authority. If no response I'd have gotten his boat # and checked with the Sheriff Dept or Wildlife and Fisheries. A gun in his lap in a threatening way could be considered assault.

Now Jimmy.... he had a gun in his lap. Those fish are precious ..... but maybe not THAT precious....but I am not that courageous and I am not one for confrontation. Guess what I’m trying to say is I’d rather talk to you on Crappie.com than have you or any one else dead over some sacalait. Just sayin.

I'm not for confrontation either, but that is where I would draw the line. I understand the whole water access under Napoliandic law, you may "own the canal or have a lease" but you will never own aquatic species as long as that body of water connects anyway to a public body of water. They are all property of the state they are in.

Ughh. I’ve quoted, typed posts, deleted, copied and pasted.
I’m not a tough guy, but wrong is wrong and a gun on the lap is the wrong way to approach anyone and demand the release of anything on a persons property unless they carry the proper identification. That’s what I believe and I don’t believe a lap ridden shotgun would change my mind.

If my back wasn't giving me trouble, I'd have taken his gun away from him and made him give me his ducks.
    Tell'em I'll be there.
