I would like to try to catch some whites in the Stephensville area. I frequent the oil field canals in the area, but only catch blacks. Would the lakes be more productive for whites than the canals? Thanks

I've been catching a little bit of everything the last couple weeks. The catfish bite in the cypress trees has been pretty good. A few bass in the canals on white spinnerbaits. Got a nice mixed bag last week throwing a beetle spin with a blue/white grub tipped with worm. The water looks pretty good in most of canals, but the duck lettuce is BAD in a bunch of spots (as of last week).
In the lake and canals I very seldom catch whites. Catch a few in Bayou Corne/Grand River area but I see more in Bayou Magazille heading towards Belle River. They are elusive, like to eat shiners; and usually are good size fish. I don’t catch big numbers there though. Amite and Ticfaw rivers have beaucoup whites!
Give me those Black Crappie -- they have thicker Body's and fight harder and longer
Lakes in the summer. Moving into canals now for winter and spawn. They usually stay in canals with dirtier water. That being said pre hurricane Andrew the area was loaded with them. Since then never recovered to pre Andrew numbers at least in the grassy/Paloure area.
