    Default Cypress Round 2

Only managed to catch 4 crappie trolling crank baits today. By mid day the wind was a blowing and bites stopped.

I only kept 9 on Tuesday. Caught all but two on Bandit 300 Bone. The other two came in on 300 Taco Salad. Had to speed up to 1.8 on 45-50' of line to get them to bite. It was windy and very choppy around noon before I caught the last seven. I chickened out of going today. I'm off all next week, so I'm going to slip out there a couple days. The cranking has just been way off for me this year on Cypress.

I was using 4 bandit 300's @ 45 to 55 ft of line going down wind most of the day using the troll motor 1.3 to 1.5 mpg on graph. Caught fish by park and infront of dam.
With a drift sock and 5 gallon bucket , I can get my 90 hp main motor down to 1.8 to 1.7 mph, need to experiment a little more.

Just learning the game to be ready 2019 and learning a few tips from my cranking brother in Bunkie.

I normally pull between 1.4-1.6mph. When I've tried several different colors at different depths with little luck, I'll speed up and repeat. Tuesday, when nothing was working, I turned downwind while set at 1.6. My speed picked up to 1.9 before the tm throttled back and instantly I hung a double. I set my speed to 1.8 and caught five more good fish pretty quick, then nothing. Caught all but one between the points around White Oak across from the park launch. Thinking of heading out there shortly to try out in front of the Parks Rd launch.

I've been out here for 30 minutes and already caught eight. They're inhaling bone with orange belly. 16-18 fow running 75-85' of line at 1.5mph. So far I've made one pass down the bank of the dam. Will give you more time to info later.

Well, it's not super hot, but kept 20 good ones and a handful of 10"ers. Water surface temp was down to 67.4°. Threw back over ten that weren't 10". Bite died off the later it got. I played with speed and depth a little but 75-80' of line at 1.5mph seemed to do best. I didn't have much time to move around, but the stretch between the dock and dam was the most productive. Lots of shad there. Bone w/orange belly did best, white w/black splatter back next best, a few on Pearl w/red eyes, nothing on pink or taco salad. Next time you go out, run that area. Seemed to catch most where it dropped off from 16' to 18' deep. Watch for brush piles. There's several there. If you find a bone crank, that's my gift to you. Lol. I hung a pile and couldn't get it loose. I'm sure it'll surface soon.

I was out there Saturday drifting with shiners and jigs and only caught 2 small ones around Parks Road, and the wind was driving me crazy. So I picked up and drove over to the bridge on the north side of the lake for a little while. There was a kid paddling around in a kayak with a bucket between his feet...he had already caught 2 bass about 3 lbs or so each, a nice crappie, and a catfish, using a cork and worms.... :P I managed to pick up one nice one about 12" there under the bridge, then couldn't find another bite. Finally left around 1:30 and gave the fish to another couple on the lake. I'll have to try again when it gets a little cooler maybe.

Good to meet you out there Don.

Way to stick with it Rob and figure them out. It's a puzzle every time out and that's what makes it so much fun. Great catch!
Only need three more years before I can think like a fish.
Thanks Bossier_Rob thanked you for this post
