    Default Tipping jigs with shrimp

New to forum and not a computer guy. I fish mainly bayou Desiard in Monroe. Have greater success when jigs are tipped with nibbles. Have even better results when tipped with grass shrimp. Hard to find grass shrimp lately so I was thinking of using fresh gulf shrimp cut in tiny pieces and kept on ice. Has anyone ever tried this? If so, did it help increase strikes like whole grass shrimp? Thanks for any information. PS I will try regardless and post results this week.

I have never tried shrimp on jigs, but they may work. Anyway, I wanted to welcome you to the forum. Good luck and we look forward to your post. I look forward to trying the crappie in Bayou Desiard as soon as I get a chance. I live right across the highway from it at the Children's Home. Just haven't had an opportunity to put my boat in yet.

Works great on salt water baits! And I have had success with bream doing this, not sure about sac au lait.

Used to catch crappie with grass shrimp on small- tiny gold hook around grass beds. Lots of time very shallow and very good size. Have used shrimp for catfish. Can’t hurt. Let us know!

Thanks for the replies. Nice article on bream. I fish mostly for crappie and when I tip my jig with grass shrimp I do catch more bream but the crappie bite increases by a magnitude. Way better then nibbles. It was my grandpas secret to catching crappie in the cut offs on bayou Macon. Has to be live or fresh grass shrimp. If they turn white they don’t work. Thinking fresh gulf shrimp my work as well. Hope they do as I will try tues or we’d. Will let you guys know with photos if I can figure how to post them. Please stay tuned. Also, on bayou Desiard the bite get better when the cypress trees turn orange and that is starting now!

You can freeze grass shrimp in corn meal. I use to buy em that way from a bait shop on the way to my camp on Island side of False river.

Thanks. We used to do that with caltrops worms as a kid. Will try that with grass shrimp in the future.
