Thanks for the post p. I've wondered about Sorrel. I went there last summer and found muddy water in most of the main canals. They where working that pipeline just north of Berry Lake.
Finally got a chance to go last Wednesday to my favorite spots. Shell fields in Bayou Sorrel. Water is low with lots of large carp in the front but the back around Berry Lake was stained a little green and fish were biting for a change. Just when we got them figured out, the lightning ran us back to the landing. Not good in an aluminum boat!
I told a friend about it this weekend and he went today and there's a MASSIVE fish kill out there with a lot of oil field activity. Water has turned to chocolate milk and bank to bank dead fish. He saw some 4-5 lb bass, lots of sacs and catfish up to about 10 lbs! When he went out this morning there was about 60 crew boats at the dock but on the way back, there were only 6 left. They've got the water some stirred up! When the water's high you don't see any of them out there.

Paul,
That sucks...!
I’m going report that to the LWLF & DEQ...maybe they can go look at it!

I already contacted everybody. DEQ said they would send someone out but LDWF didn't seem too interested. They said that the boats churn the water when it gets low and kills the fish and they don't like it but.....
Haven't heard from WAFB yet but Chris Nakamoto wants pics. I'm going out in the am to get him some.
pbouy,
Actually, an aluminum boat is the best boat to be in during a thunderstorm. When you feel threatened by lightning, just lie down in the boat. The aluminum is conductive and will prevent an electrical potential from building up across your body so that little current will pass through it. An automobile or truck works in the same way. Now if a lightning strike hits your boat, it will not harm you. You may have to clean up though. lol

Went out this morning to get pics for TV stations. Met up with DEQ but didn't see and LDWF agents. Still can't get that smell out of my nose, though.

Sugarfoot_Salzer thanked you for this post
That is extremely unfortunate and wish something was being done to prevent the fish kill.
I bet that smell sticks with you for at least a day.
Paul, The movement of a drilling rig like you show in your video can cause a fish kill. Many times in narrow shallow water the drilling barge will drag the bottom causing the tug boats to really churn the water to keep it moving. This causes all the sediment to be stirred up filling the gills of the fish with silt and they suffocate. I've witnessed this in person before. Not pretty.

Paul...
Thanks for the pics...
Wish those things wouldn’t happen !
