    Default Chicot State Park question

Anyone do any good this time of year at Lake Chicot in Ville Platte? We have a camping trip next weekend and plan to fish in the mornings and late afternoons. All I’ve ever tried for is bream and done well but I’d like to catch some sac-a-lait if possible. Any suggestions?

Man, that place is tough, especially in summer....If I had to go I would start on south end near spillway. There's usually grass along the levee....Then late morning find some shaded tops , good luck

Thanks. Figured I’d give it a try while we’re there. My dad wants to bass fish at daylight and I’d like to get my boys to catch some bream. Might try to catch some sacs in b/w. I usually fish the coves by the old cabins for bream. Only deep water I know of is the channel. Figured I’d work my way down it for a little while. I’ll start off by the spillway if we give up on bass early enough. We might strike out but we are going to give it a try.

Same here. We used to go twice a summer. I’ve caught plenty of big bream years ago but haven’t been in a while. My parents/brother have a cabin rented and I’m bringing my camper. Going to have my boat there also and hoping we can put a few fish in the ice chest.

I'm from that general area, it is difficult to fish but I have seen some nice fish caught there. At the very least it is a great place to camp. Good luck, stay cool.

I fish it often in March and April and do pretty well. But not in the summer. I would start at the North end by the spillway and fish along the grass. Then as it gets hotter, move into the cypress trees nearby and see if you can pull some out. I did hear today that the bream were biting at nearby Miller's Lake. I might go tomorrow morning and give a report Wednesday. Good Luck !

Yes, great place to camp. A lot to do there with the fishing, hiking trails, etc. We are only going to fish early and late while it’s not too hot. Going to do some relaxing and cooking at the cabin too.

Haven’t fished Miller’s Lake. We will probably end up trying mainly for bream since they’ll probably be the easiest to catch but if I can find a few sacs I’d be thrilled.

I tired this time last year with a buddy when I had my boat.
Fished the north end by the cypress trees and managed three sacs first thing before the sun was over the trees then didn’t see another one all day.
We caught a mess of bream and one bass until the heat ran us off around 1.
