    Default Waiting on the spawn!

I have been hitting Black Bayou off and on for the last week, working the shallow reeds looking for spawners. It has been slow to say the least!

Anyone else having any luck shallow?

I did right before last full moon. Then that pattern died. I think I may try again tomorrow in the hopes of a second later wave of the same activity.

I went Wednesday evening at 4:30 pm to the Red and ended up with 3 small males in 1-3 ft water. Saw a fellow I know there with his wife who had been there all day and he said they had 12-15 small males caught in 6 ft water. He said it was on, but when I asked him if any tails or fins were bloody or torn and he said "No". I reminded him (I had told him this 20 years ago) that the small ones come in early and try to stake a claim. The big ones come 1-2 weeks later and show who's boss. It always starts the first 2 weeks of April at St Maurice and it's usually starts the first 2 weeks of March at Coushatta. I'll be ready to go at them on the weekend of 3/31/18. Should be easy pickings if we don't get too much rain this next week.

I've hit Cypress almost every day since Saturday. It's been slow. I've caught more on the creek channels than shallow. Cleaned a lot of fish with eggs that aren't quite ready. Still a pale yellow and very clumpy. I've gotten pics of fish caught on Cypress and on BB, all caught off the banks. They're all blacks. I've caught nothing but white crappie this week. Only got 12 to bite today and it was windy and choppy.
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work, unless you fish for a living.

Strange thing is, I have a friend that was catching nice bream shallow yesterday...don't they usually go shallow AFTER the crappie?

I got zero shallow bites Saturday at Indian Creek. I caught three slabs off of some deep structure before the wind made me quit. I think it's over.

I think spawn may be over at Caney. Caught some deep with no eggs.
