40 fish a day for 5 days is great for any lake, definitely be thankful. As far as what happened to the lake, Bob already said it:
In 2016 the lake exploded with 3lb crappie. Three of the top ten all were caught within weeks of each other. There was at least 15 fish reported that year that broke that magical 3lb mark. Those kinda of numbers of trophy fish would rival some of the best Mississippi lakes. This has been well publicized throughout the state and the country. It has brought many fishers from all over the country to this small hidden gem. But something has changed since 2016.
The lake is a small lake and is very crowded during the spawn because everyone thinks they can come out and catch a 3lb crappie. It aint that easy to do. But believe it or not, everyone that catches a 3 lb crappie, doesnt report it. There are plenty still in there and plenty get caught that no one knows about. Some like to keep things quiet.

Keep throwing those hybrids back... They are not the enemy, unless they get into your spider rig... I want to come catch them when they reach 15 pounds, or more...
