A lot of it depends upon how much money you want to spend or have to spend. LOL. I have never owned anything but Motor Guide, so I can't comment intelligently on the other brands. Never had any problems with Motor Guide though.
I may be looking into getting a new trolling motor. Opinions as to which is better these days based on Noise and Durability. My current Motor Guide is 17 years old and she sounds a pretty grouchy when I ask her to move me. Thanks in advance....SLIP

Definately a MinnKota...which type and model depends on how you fish and also what your budget is.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Love the feedback. I would like to know why one make is better than other makes. I do not have a boatload of money but in this case a good product takes priority over cost.
Living in sola I do several types of fishing so the demand on my tm is very high. My motor guide has been great over the past 17 years but product quality over time is never consistant.
X2! Wise words.

Over the years I have owned both Minnkota and Motorguide. They both make good motors. I have had a Xi5 on my Lund for the last couple years and have been extremely pleased with it. I'm certain it has many more hours on it than my 10 year old Merc. Just look for the features you want and let it fit your budget. Then, just go fishing!

I have used both and as was said earlier, it all depends on where you will be fishing and your budget. I do believe the Minn Kota is quitter than motor guide. I fish the marsh a lot and the actually prefer the minn kota (hand control) there but I fish lakes more in the winter and prefer the motor guide (foot control) in the lakes.

Minn Kota. If I recall correctly you spider rig; if so an electric steer is the way to go in my opinion.
