Thumbs up Did A Little Population Control Today

Drove over to Grand Bayou this morning to hopefully do a little "population control" and to keep Duckcommando company. When I arrived at the park, there was no one in the check-in house, but the gate was open. So, after driving all over the park looking for the boat launch I finally left the park entrance and drove just down the road and found the boat launch. I was so glad that I didn't get there until after daylight. I would have never found the launch in the dark. LOL.

I met the nicest fellow at the launch, a man by the name of Noah, who is also a pastor. After talking for a few moments, I explained that today was my first time to ever see Grand Bayou, much less fish it. He told me that he fished there 2-3 times a week and told me to just find him when I got down the lake, get into his hip pocket and I would catch some crappie.

Well, I never saw him again until we met again while loading up, but I did find Duckcommando just where he said he would be. It was probably around 8:30 before I started fishing and quit around 1:00 PM. Fished in water 14.5-17.5 feet deep about 1.5-2 feet off of the bottom. I caught fish on shiners and several different colors of jigs, which included a couple of my hand ties, BG electric chicken, and BG crystal. I caught 20 and kept 16 with the biggest going a solid 2lbs.

Although the wind blew a little and there was a heavy mist falling part of the time, I had a great time. I caught enough fish to keep it interesting and had great company, fishing within talking distance of Duckcommando most of the morning. And, I caught enough of the females to help keep the population of crappie down so that the ones that are left will grow to enormous sizes.

The Lord has blessed me with 2 new friends in the last couple of months, Josh Andrews and Justin Maxwell. Although both of these young me are much younger than I am, we have a common bond; we all love to crappie fish and we love Jesus. Both of them are just well mannered and very respectful young men. They are both hard workers and love their families. I am so blessed that the Lord Jesus has let them become my friends. Our country would be much better off if all of our young men were just like Josh and Justin. Thank You, Jesus, for these living examples.

Finally, here are a few pictures.

What some beauties. I really enjoyed the fellowship Pastor. The weather was kind of Crappie today LOL! But the fish didn't mind it and I didn't mind it either having some good company. The mess of fish was just a bonus. I ended up with 16 and my largest went 1.65lbs. I'm glad you enjoyed the lake and come back anytime! I'm more glad that the lake didn't make a liar out of me and you caught some solid fish lol! One time I looked up and we both had fish going at the same time. Here are a few of my pictures.

Great report Pastor, I'm glad you had a good time and caught some really nice sacalait!! I agree with your comments about Justin (Duckcomando) Maxwell. I meet up with him, his super nice wife and kids earlier this week and you're right, he's definitely a top notch fellow! Maxwell328 I believe them boys must take after their dad quite a bit also! It's always great to see C.C members meet up and share new fishing areas and tips, that's what it's all about. Congrats and thank yall for sharing

Great report Pastor. I also have met some of the nicest people through the forum. I just wish I had more time to spend visiting and fishing with them.
