    Default Worm Food

Raising some Euro nightcrawlers and was wondering if anyone uses chicken layer mash for feed? If so, how do you like it?

My homemade mix is: 1/4cup each of chicken layer mash, 1/4cup Black Kow, 1/4cup coffee grounds, I add also 1Tbs sugar and 1tps ground oyster shells. I put all this in a small food processor and turn it into a powder.

I lightly sprinkle some on top of the bed until it's all gone, usually takes about a day to eat all of it.

I have 2 compost bins, one gets leaf mulch with coffee grounds and tea bags. The other gets vegetable scraps from the kitchen with leaf mulch. No meat products in either. The one with vegetables gets loaded with worms as long as it stays cool.
Corn meal, not corn meal mix is good.

Purina makes a worm chow also. Got my local feed store to order it for me years ago when I grew red worms. They seemed to love it! It's suppose to have all the nutrients they need blended into it.

Bedding material I used was 1 "cube" of fertilizer free peat moss and 2 bags of black cow. Also had a rain barrel with a spigot instead of using tap water.

The Purina worm chow is what I feed my worms too. They love it.

I spread cornmeal on the ground, wet it with rainwater. Cover with a large sheet of cardboard, wet with rainwater. Wet it every couple of days. Add more cornmeal when needed. Can pick worms most every day.

Always used Purina Layena non-medicated crumbles. Add a little water and let it sit a few minutes, feed in shallow trench Tried it against Purina worm food, worms ate chicken feed first.. Much cheaper than worm food.

^^^I also use the chicken feed, but I run it through a coffee grinder first so it's a fine powder
