    Default My Winter Shiner Setup

To explain the picture, the black box on top is a 5000 gal KOI Pond environmental filter. It provides a home and structure for the beneficial bacteria to grow and flourish. They feed on ammonia & nitrates from the fish. As the water travels through oxygen is added to the water too. The White box underneath is a Penguin Chiller, it's fantastic, it can keep the water in my 300 gal tank (summer tank) at 65 degrees effortlessly. The pump is a simple pond pump sold at Lowes along with the hose. A dual output air pump and supplemental air stones add extra oxygen so my shiners are very "Frisky". The shiners like the Shad Keeper additive in the water too.

Which size chiller are you using? I have a stainless tank that I am going to use for keeping bait and would like to use a set up similar to yours.

Sorry to take so long to respond, I've been on Ross Barnett the last 4 days and just got home. I will post closeup pictures so you can see the chiller & filter. I run some pond clearer periodically, the barley base stuff, really keeps the water perfectly clear.

The Chiller has worked flawlessly since the install, I don't have to run it all the time as it is in the A/C.

I was curious as to what size chiller you are using. I went to the website and they have several sizes. Thank you for the additional pictures.

I just went to their website but the exact one I have is no longer available. The order confirmation on my unit says it is 1/2HP unit

I'm sure it works. Pretty much everything I have in my 5ooo gal Koi pond! Great idea.
