Default Catching creek Chubs for crappie

i have a creek behind my house where I can dip net creek chubs, 1.5" to 2.5". How do they work for crappie. My bait shop is closed down because of the virus. So I am looking for a way to get some live bait. I have not tried creek chubs before. Always used small shiners.

I catch and use them. If I feel they are a bit big I put them back in. I put my minnow traps in with a hot dog and waiting a couple hours I usually have 20 or more. I get $1.00 packs of hot dogs at Dollar General.

I have used them, but in my experience chubs are a bit more heat sensitive than shiners, just sure to keep the water fresh,if you don’t use a bait bucket that hangs over the side of your boat, add some ice to the water to keep them cool.

    They are pretty delicate.

Aeration is key. I catch chubs on tiny fly hooks baited with worm.

If you don’t catch any crappie on them, you’ll definently catch bass and catfish.
