I like to use live bait, minnows a lot of the times will catch fish when jigs or other artaficial baits wont work. But my thinking is changing about learning how to use jigs and such just for this reason that minnows have too high if you give 3.30 for a dozen minnows, for each minnow will cost you if my math is right is about .35 cents apeice. That might not sound like much, but my Social security tells me I cant spend a whole lot on fishing equipment.
This year Im going to learn how to use jigs a lot more so I wont have to buy minnows, then if I get skunked at least the jigs will not rot
in my tackle box till next time I go fishing, I have been watching a lot of youtubes just so I can learn how...Please forgive I hope this did not hijack you posting thanks for bring it up here. Here minnows are about 3.40 a dozen.

When i worked nights I kept a tank of fathead minnows in the garage. That way i had bait even late when all the places were sold out . They are not hard to keep as long as the water is cool

When I buy them our local bait shop is pretty generous. Depends on if they are small(1-1/2" to 2") or big(2-1/2) crappie minnows.

1 dozen($1.87) they give me about 3 doz if small and 2 doz if big.
2 dozen($3.74) I get 4-6 doz if small and about 4 if big.

Most garages closed up get 90-100 in the summer, how do you keep yours cool?
