That Chest freezer idea gave me another Idea, 2 matter of fact. #1 Get old beat up working freezer and modify to control at 70 or so deg(its adjustable with RANCO (electronic temp controller) and could use heat lamp in winter which is mostly mild where I live on Patio.. #2 What about a couple old Igloo Ice chest about 100 Quart size..There too beat up to transport anymore...But watertite almost...How deep would media have to be????...maybe they too shallow..could cover with screen and light at nite on patio (shaded)...
Sorry for all dumb ??? but I think I'm on to something.

I like the idea of using the temp control on the freezer to regulate the bedding. I've never thought of that, it's a genus idea.

Coolers do make worm bins. The best dept for your bedding is between 12 and 16 inches. You'd have to elevate them on bricks and such and use drainage holes. If you have a light on the worms they won't go anywhere at night, so no screen needed!

7-10 days unfortunately. Make sure you have a good amount (1 or two heaping cups of dolomite lime) in there.

Horse manure makes for a great bedding mix with peat moss that grows big worms.

Find someone that has some composted for at least 30 days. Fresh manure can heat up in the bin and kill your worms.

A ??? to go with Bedding Mix.....You say 50/50 mix of Peat/Kow are we talking by weight or volume...My dumb guess would be weight with Peat in the wetted state and wrung out like a sponge/ Kow is somewhat wetted already....
a 5g bucket of KOW weighs about 35# while that same bucket of Dry peat is like a bucket of FEATHERS (LOL)

What matters is the size of your worm bed. I am using a protein tub, so I add 1 bucket of moist peat and 1 bucket of shredded cow pies. You can blend it in a wheelbarrow and add it to the container.

I am 99% sure he means by volume. That's what I used to do anyway.
