You hit the nail on the head Snubby. Just wondering why the "I ain't got a fool with a minnow, I'm a pro jig man" are not winning all that money from fishing tournaments. Like it is said not all lakes are alike and never bet on another mans tricks.
Be safe and good luck fishing

I think some of us have (the touch) when using jigs, and some of us just don't.
For those of us that don't, minnows seem to help.

I use live bait,Wether it be worms, minnows, crickets, ect because I do catch fish to take home with me to eat.I honestly would like to learn how to use jigs, and artificals just to maybe save my money on buying live bait. The question I have among others Is how long and how many casts do you guys make with your jigs, before you change to another color when you dont get a hit on a certian color.Say your only using one pole, two jigs and neather one is producing..how many casts or how many min. do you fish with those jigs before you decide to change...I really want to know,Because I have tried using jigs more than once, even two at a time of all colors, fished them slow, fast drop shotted them.but there is some thing Im doing wrong and out of frustration I go back to what im used too.

If I knew how to use jigs then I would be able to use both methods, Someone that only use jigs, tell me how.and if you tip that jig with a minnow or live bait,is it the jig or the live bait that caused that fish to bite.

My fishing buddy and I push jigs in front of the boat at about 1 to 1.5 mph. 4 rods per side, one jig per rod, with a three foot flouro leader behind a 1 ounce or so sinker. In the area we fish, certain colors sort of remain "go to" colors and that is what we start with. Around here you can't go far wrong starting with chartreuse, chartreuse and white, blue and white or black and fuchsia . We start with a mix of those. We then switch to whichever of those seems to work best. If they don't work, out comes the red, red and white and electric chicken. I can't even remember the last time we got skunked, and we fish once a week every week, except during these holidays.

Neither of us are "pros", we just enjoy fishing and have found we enjoy it just as much, and catch as many or more fish, as we did when we were buying minnows, a lot of years ago.

IMO, color is way overrated. What matters more than anything is depth and speed. I'll take the wrong color at the correct depth and speed anytime.

As far as speed goes, you can almost never fish too slow, but it's very easy to fish too fast. When in doubt, go slower. Keep changing your depth until you find fish.

I have posted this article many times on this site. The bait (slider) is not important. What's important is the method:

For more info, buy the book. It's the best book ever written on jig fishing.
