Most of what i have seen is saying to flash freeze them to kill them and then put in a container with salt and store in the fridge to dry them out.Then store in a container in the freezer until ready to use.
I have not tried this myself but have read this method on several sites.Some say to rehydrate them in water before using them.They will lose color but should still have some of the grasshopper taste.
If you try this please post and let us know if it worked for you.

You can try this, but it's a lot more work than I'm willing to put in. I'd rather just buy fresh bait.

Yeah it's easier to by fresh bait,but My nature drives me In the DIY way.I purchased some dead crickets from a bait shop,so I could check them out,they are preserved,but not really dried out,and don't require refrigeration,I would like to know their secret .

Maybe you just need to try using a dehydrator to dry them out.

I decided to set some cricket traps tonight,gave them a quick check shortly after dark,had numorous crickets already in them.Im going to try dehydrating them,if it works I will do the same when the grasshopper run starts.

If I had only known there was a demand for grasshoppers I'd be a gozillionaire. There were "flocks" of grasshoppers flying around in our hay field while we cut hay this week. Seriously, millions of them. I've never seen them that thick.

Are you crappie fishing with them?
