Was how deep the fish wanted the bait , slowly dragging it downstream after an upstream cast ,bait color and size wasn't terribly important , it was about the presentation .

Started out on south end of the point this am. The crappie bite was pretty slow all morning. Looked and sounded to be slow for everyone. Wish I could say the same for the goo but they were out in full force today, caught at least 2 dozen, maybe

Back to Basic's, with all the modern ways to catch crappie around us, it was nice to go out as simple as it gets and just cast a float and small jig. It took me back to my childhood where so many crappie careers got their start this way, including

I got my hands on some Gold SeriesRoad Runners. I love that they have the flashy chenille body material plus foil paint on the head. It gives it more flash and it's not a plastic that will wear out over time. I decided to try them dipping Lilly Pads, and boy do they work well. Yes, down here in Florida we've had an extra warm winter. The Crappie think it's Spring and are in the pads now, wow.
Eight of us headed down to Crescent City, Fl on the 22nd for some Spec Fishing. We fished Crescent Lake, Dead Lake, Woodruff Lake, Norris Dead River, and Blue Peter Lake. One boat caught no fish, one boat caught 2, one boat caught 15, and my

Nobody posted anything from Barkley in a while so I might as well give her a little love. Not sure that there has been an all out slaughter going on like I hear is happening on Kentucky but fishing is holding up pretty well.

Tried to get an artist friend in the boat with me for this morning but after an unsuccessful game of telephone tag I went solo. Same place as last week, and launched at the same time. Much less traffic at the ramp this morning which built by

Fishing the "marsh" is a totally different dynamic than fishing lakes or rivers. The marsh is unique in its own way. Typically the water is shallow, compared to other places, running an average of 5-8 feet. Understanding the different

Crappie queen is on the big fish, she is having a ball. I got to tell you, we have been together for 54 years and married 48 of them. She was my high school sweet heart and I have really enjoyed the past 4 or 5 years with her being my fishing

There isn’t anything wrong with crappie fishing guide Brad Whitehead’s boat, but he sure gets lots of strange looks. It’s probably because instead of trolling with the boat’s bow moving forward, Whitehead’s boat is being pulled sideways down the lake.
While it may be counter intuitive, Whitehead’s side pulling technique puts crappie in the livewell. “Side pulling for crappie isn’t something you see every day on the lake.

As promised, I took Camryn to the river for a long overdue trip to catch up on her lessons. I've been trying to get her education well rounded with exposure to different techniques. Keeping in mind that at 12 yrs old there are certain things
