    Default Going to Taylorsville......

.....Saturday morning for a few hours and was wondering about the conditions of the lake. Has it recovered from all the rain? Any ideas about water temp or color? I'll report on my incredible catch when I get back. Take care.

    Exclamation Hey Greenfish ...

ALWAYS check here - http://www.lrl.usace.army.mil/wc/reports/lkreport.html - before you take off to Taylorsville.
Right now the lake is just a drop or two above Summer Pool. I suspect the water temps are right around 80deg/surface. With no heavy rains for some time, I'd expect the water to be fairly clear to slightly stained, for the first couple of feet ... and have the typical "green" color to it.

    (what I'd do ... if I was going) ....
If you're going for Crappie - fish any blowdowns you can find, with 8-10ft or more of water under them, and fish them from the crack of dawn til the Sun hits the water above them. Then go to standing timber, in pockets & coves, that has 15-20ft of water depths (or more), and get right next to them and "Vertical Cast" a jig right down next to the tree trunk. Shaded trees first - then the shaded side of those in the sunlight.
If you're using minnows - go to the same places & fish the same depths as I've explained for jigs. Once you find the depth they're holding, they should be at that depth in most of the lake. It would just be a matter of finding the right tree/depth in several places, to have a chance at getting into a school of decent sized fish.
If you're going after "greenfish" ... topwater baits like a Torpedo (prop bait), or a Zara Puppy (small "Spook") along the shaded banks with standing timber, should get you bit. It's a little early yet, for a white spinnerbait in the timber & around the blowdowns ... but, that could still be a productive method, early in the AM.
Keep your eyes open for White Bass & Hybrids in the jumps (surface feeding) ... casting a "blade bait", small shallow running crankbait, or a 1/8oz Roadrunner (char or white) should get you some action -- if you can get to them before they quit. You could also troll with these baits .... or a deep diver crankbait with a 12-14" leader line (tied to the front hook eye) and a small marabou jig tied on the end.
Wish I wasn't working this weekend ... I'd join ya :D (if there was room in the boat for me  ) ........ luck2ya ............cp
