Default Need GPS coordinates for the best spots on Cumberland

    ****KIDDING*****
But I’m going to be doing some fishing down there in a couple of weeks, just have a few questions for the guys that fish it.
-is a vertical presentation possible with the clear water?
-I’ve been on some shoreline there striper fishing and I was In 30 feet of water 5 feet off the bank. I’ve never fished for crappie on a lake this deep, and was just looking for some generalized info as in how deep typically are you finding the crappie?
I know where I will be fishing so I’m not looking for places to fish, I won’t be anywhere near anyone’s favorite spot, and It’s too far from me to fish it every weekend so you won’t be seeing me very often. Just trying to get a little upfront info before I touchdown. My electronics will determine where I start fishing, just want to make sure I have a good plan once I show up. Any advice would be appreciated, if you don’t want to share it message me privately and I’ll keep it down low. At Taylorsville there are no secrets, it’s a small lake and heavily pressured, just wanting to try something different for once.

So I’ve had success in Fishing, Caney and Wolf Creeks. You cam make your way pretty far up them fishing blowdowns etc. i primarily fished using slip corks with minners Aw well as jigging and Road Runners.

Lots of submerged standing trees in a lot of the lake. If the water is a little off color like in the backs of a lot of creeks on the upper end you can vertical jig them. If the water id clear staying back 30 or so feet & casting to them will definitely get more bites. Cumberland without a doubt is not nearly as easy to catch crappie on as green is.

You are right about the depth of Cumberland. When we moved here, Ihad to put more line on all my jig poles. Your bow can be on the bank and the transducer on the transom can be reading 25'. All lakes are puzzles and we put the pieces together as we get more experience on the lake. Cumberland is a big puzzle. It holds crappie but they seem to move more and are harder to stay on, at least for me.

I have not been able to fish during this past week. I was catching them shallow casting jigs and road runners in 4-6 fow. Some were on the bank, but as they pull back out to the ledges vertical jigging will work. All the cold fronts and windy conditions have really messed up the migrations IMHO. One day they are where you would think they should be and the next day they are gone. If you are going to be fishing the upper end, I think the stickups on the flats and creek ledges would be good places to start.

Good luck when you go. Let us know how your trip goes.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I do have a retirement plan...FISHING!

Les young is exactly right. I will tell you one thing that a lot of people will disagree with. I have tested it several times. If you are fishing clear water DON"T use high vis line or braid unless you have a leader with clear line..... One other thing if you have not fished cumberland don't have the mindset you are going to fish 1 way. being ready to change the style of fishing. It is not a typical crappie lake in the clear water anyway.

This is the type of advice I was after my man thank you. I’m kind of a two trick pony, but at the end of the day I just want to have some fun. I don’t expect to do a lot other than learn the lake better and maybe catch some a few of those Bigguns.
