    Default Green River Crappie

I’m curious to everyone’s thoughts on the state of the overall health of the crappie at GRL. Specifically the amount of fish over 11” the last two years has taken a significant decline? There is no doubt a tremendous amount of crappie in the 8-9 1/2” range with a few 10-10 3/4” fish but not a lot. It seems to be somewhat over populated with smaller fish anymore? Anyone else experiencing the same or it is just me? Hatch related? We must of caught over 200 crappie yesterday and the vast majority (70%) were 8-9 1/2”. Deep, shallow, different sections of the lake, etc it didn’t seem to matter.

    Thoughts?

My clients have caught some 14 inch crappie this past week. Seems to be a good number from 10-11 inchers. Name: IMG_20220424_175254_504.jpg

I went every day last week and this weekend, caught 44 keepers Friday with 20 of them being 12 plus. Big girls are spawning right now, we really didn't catch an awful amount of short fish.

I had to go through about 50 fish last Friday to get my limit and only had about 10 over 10 inches. There are a ton of short fish in the lake for sure.

Buddy I experience the same thing! I can't seem to catch much of anything over 10 inches and majority in the 8-9inch range

I will say from my experience…. Atleast the fish under 10 inches that I caught while at green were much thicker and healthier than the fish under 10 inches in catching at my local lakes. Also, I’ve caught 200+ crappie out of Grayson lake this year and have yet to have a single one over 10. I’d be very grateful to have the fish they have at green in my lakes.

Check out the results from Crappie USA event this weekend. I never thought I would be culling fish over a pound from Green, but it happened. I would like to know how many keeper fish I saw and caught last week. The state of the lake is the best I've ever seen.
