Default Lake Barkley Red Ear Spawn

Hello from Kansas. My son is stationed down at Ft. Campbell KY I would like to plan a trip down to take him and grandson fishing. Would like to know approximate times of the Red Ear and bluegill spawn. Would love to show grandson a great time.

    Thank you for any information.

There is a full moon April 16 and May 15. I'd say around and between those dates. Variables being temp, water level and clarity.

It's a fairly short window for the big redear. If I was coming from Kansas, I would pick the second week of May.

Where I fish from the bank, they actually show up much earlier but in low numbers. I typically catch several throughout April that weigh about 1.75lbs. They are a struggle to land on the 2lb line I use. Good luck!!
